Branch of Penang Road Famous Teo Chew Chendul @ Giant Hypermarket, Shah Alam, Selangor.
>> Jan 15, 2010
To all your Penangnites out there. I'm sorry to say, I prefer the KL style of Cendol and ice-kacang. You guys chuck in sarsi syrup, bits of smashed up nuts and what else not, so untasteful. Ok, that was mean. Please don't flame me for this. I was just kidding.
Note: Cendol & Chendul is the same thing.
Anyway, I recently visited a branch of the Penang Road Famous TeoChew Chendul. This branch used to be at the Giant Hypermarket in Subang (USJ), however, it has moved to the Giant Hypermarket in Shah Alam, which is situated a stone throw from the Shah Alam stadium.

Penang Road Chendul (sorry about that large blob there, real insult to photography)
I went for both their ice kacang and cendol.

Ice Kachang with Ice-Cream

Chendul
The ais-kacang or Air Batu Campur (ABC) was priced at RM2.50 (RM0.50 for ice cream) whereas the Cendol was RM1.70 if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, its affordable. One can opt for their Cendol to come with ice-cream as well (Penangnites have weird taste =P).
The verdict? I'm sorry to say, I didn't quite like the shaved iced here (both of them). I wasn't certain whether it was something wrong with me or it just wasn't good. I guess our tastebud in KL is slightly different from our friends up north.
I have also tried the cendol in their main branch at
21, Keng Kwee Street,
Off Penang Road,
10000 Penang,
West Malaysia.

See? Proof of me being there
I have to say, their main branch somewhat was slightly better. At least at that point in time (1 year ago), I found it to be better. My conclusion is that KL/Selangor people's perception of good ABC and cendol is somewhat different from the Penangnites (I guess nobody is right but each of us have our own personal opinion). I still prefer the Cendol stall in SS15. As for ice kacang, I will soon post up one of the best ice kacang I've tasted in Selangor/KL so far.
Pricing: Under RM10 per person
